Other Minds Festival 22 – Lou Harrison

Mission Dolores
May 13, 2017 by Rico Schwartzberg in Outside Events

The late Lou Silver Harrison (1917-2003) was one of America's most original and revered composers, born May 14th, 1917, in Portland, Oregon. The world is celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth with concerts everywhere. On May 20, Bay Area music non-profit Other Minds will produce a concert devoted exclusively to some major highlights of Harrison’s infectious output. The Noonan Building’s Mark Abramson is currently working as Production Director for Other Minds.

The concert will be held at the Mission Dolores basilica, at the corner of Dolores Street and 16th Street in San Francisco’s Mission District. Among the work to be presented is La Koro Sutro (The Heart Sutra, in Esperanto), for 65 choristers, organ, harp and gamelan, and the Suite for Violin and American Gamelan, co-composed with Richard Dee, and simply put, a solid gold musical masterpiece. Nicole Paiement of San Francisco’s Opera Parallèle will conduct.

Factrix, the Bay Area-based industrial rock band which includes the Noonan Building's Mark Abramson on guitar, will be back in action next week, opening for Lumerians, Friday, November 22, at the Chapel in San Francisco. The Chapel is located at 777 Valencia Street, between 18th and 19th Streets, in the Mission. Admission is $12 per person in advance, and $15 per person at the door. Here's the link.

Lumerians are new to us, but they've done some good music and nice videos too, which you can see on their web site. Playing first is a band called Li Xi.

Mark Abramson Performing With Factrix

San Francsico-based post-punk industrial rock band Factrix, an integral part of the Bay Area music scene from the late 1970s to the early 1980s, has re-formed to play a show in Oakland next week. Noonan Building artist Mark Abramson will be playing the show with them on guitar. The show will take place on Friday, July 26 at a venue called Night Light in Oakland, at around 9pm. This is a special event to honor the release of artist Ruby Ray’s book of photographs of the 1970s San Francisco punk scene “From The Edge of the World.” For  friends and members of the NBA who are interested in attending the show, here is some information about the band, the venue and purchasing tickets:
